Responsibilities:
The A & A Supervisor is responsible for complex audit engagements and may manage multiple engagements simultaneously.
Supervisors assume responsibility for supervising engagement and special assignments, reviewing workpapers and financial statements, and communicating directly with clients.
Supervisors are responsible for complying with pronouncements of professional and other regulatory groups.
Essential Functions:
Assumes full responsibility for supervising engagements and special assignments using established firm policies and procedures.
Coordinates various phases of engagements, plans engagements, budgets time and expenses, monitors actual performance against budget, reviews workpapers for accuracy and completeness, and reviews financial statements for suitability of presentation and adequacy of disclosures.
Resolves accounting and auditing problems as they arise.
Provides supervision and on-the-job training to staff assigned to engagement.
Studies and evaluates clients' internal controls.
Prepares engagement budget.
Assigns work to staff members based on their knowledge and capabilities.
Supports training of staff members, offers guidance and direction, provides constructive feedback on workpapers, and assists with staff evaluations.
Ensures that workpapers, financial statements, tax returns and letters of recommendations are prepared in accordance with generally accepted professional and firm standards.
Communicates engagement's progress, problems, resolutions, financial information, tax activity and other business concerns to the client.
Reviews with manager or partner significant findings that raise questions involving accounting principles or statement presentation.
Prepares or reviews financial statements, notes, schedules, management letters and tax returns for later discussion between manager or partner and the client.
Other Functions:
Prepares other reports, projects and duties as may be assigned.
Participates in firm's practice development efforts including expanding services to clients.
Prepares other reports and projects as requested from time to time by managers or partners.
Such other duties as may be assigned.
Working Conditions:
Frequent same day travel and occasional out-of-town travel for work at client's offices, meetings and seminars using a personal vehicle.
Occasional overtime work required throughout the year.
Heavy overtime work required from January to April 15; may be in excess of 55 hours per week.
Required
Experience:
At least four (4) years experience preferred in public accounting, demonstrating a progression in complexity, scope and number of engagements managed.
Demonstrated ability to bring in new business to a CPA firm.
Educational Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in accounting or Master's degree in accounting.
Minimum of forty (40) hours of continuing professional education is required each year to maintain and develop technical and business skills.
Participates in career development program to improve managerial, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Required Licenses, Certificates or Knowledge:
A current and valid Certified Public Accountant's license is required.
Must be a member in good standing with the American Institute of CPAs.
Proficiency in use of computers, computer accounting software and tax software programs.
