Licensed Practical Nurse (Primary Care Lab Float) CBOC
This Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is a LPN/LVN and provides a wide range of clinical services to the veteran that demonstrates complex technical judgment under direct supervision of a registered nurse or Licensed Independent Provider. The LPN utilizes basic nursing skills and techniques, of varying degrees of complexity, in a general care setting, to provide personal and general nursing care to adult patients, aged 18-85 and older, who require treatment for common medical conditions. The Primary Care LPN is assigned to a CBOC lab and completes specimen collections and processing. In addition, the Primary Care LPN may be assigned to primary care duties and may utilize Clinical Video Telehealth equipment to facilitate primary care remote visits. Duties of this position include but are not limited to:
Collecting and processing lab specimens per LIP and/or nursing standing orders. Administering medication accurately and promptly under the general supervision of a registered nurse or LIP. Performing basic physiological measures as ordered and PRN (e.g., temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, pain, diabetic foot screen, height/weight, pulse oximetry, doppler). Demonstrating ability to make astute observations and thoroughly documents care and patient response. Performing treatments and carries out orders prescribed and written by the provider as they relate to the practice of nursing:
sterile/non-sterile dressings, specimen collection, ear irrigations, O2, catheterizations. Demonstrating ability to perform complex treatments and procedures with limited supervision. Performing support duties for diagnostic procedures including preparing the patient, assisting in the diagnostic examination and monitoring the patient's condition before, during and after procedures. An LPN LVN who has or has ever had, any license(s) revoked, suspended, denied, restricted, limited, or issued/placed in a probationary status may be appointed only when it is not possible to recruit qualified individuals. A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
