Vehicle Description 1972 Lemans with GTO option, 5,807 were made, has WW5 option.
Only 290 of these WW5 GTO's were built and this package was only available in 1972.
Original color is starlight black, has been Monarch yellow for about 50 years.
Restored in a rotisserie from 2005 to 2007, at a cost of $100,000.
Engine, transmission, and differential all rebuilt over the past 3 years.
Also rebuilt at that time was the brake master cylinder, tilt steering column, and electric driver's seat, plus installation of a new under dash wiring harness.
Cost for all the parts for the mechanical rebuilds was almost $ 19,000.
Mechanicals were rebuilt by the last owner who was a mechanic at Boeing for 30 years, and he is very knowledgeable about Pontiacs.
Pictures of the restoration of the chassis, plus engine and transmission rebuilds can be seen @ 1972 yellow GTO in Utah, also photos of documentation of the car and restoration receipts.
The carburetor that was on the car when he bought the GTO, (around 2021) was the correct carb for a 72 H.
O.
455 automatic which has a vacuum port for the trans.
He was able to locate and purchase, for $ 2900, the correct 800 CFM Rochester 4bbl carb for a 72 H.
O.
455 4 speed car, which has no vacuum port.
He cleaned and rebuilt the carb which functions well.
Step on the gas to set choke and fast idle, tap the pedal for normal idle.
Vehicle is all numbers matching.
Wheels are date coded 2 weeks prior to production date on the car, which is the correct time sequencing.
Tires are the right specification ( G 60-15 ) Goodyear Polyglas.
This is what one person said about the car in the comment section @ 1972 yellow GTO in Utah, I finally got through all the photos and the transformation from before, to it's current condition, is phenomenalno stone was unturned! This is one of the nicest restorations of a 72 455-HO GTO, bar none and all numbers matching! I noticed on the build sheet that it shows the unitized ignition and the last picture shows it, but maybe it doesn't work.
It also shows that it was ordered with custom paint Starlight Black, but the front bumper to be Code 11 White, which is odd and rare! What would the cost be for a numbers matching WW5 car that needs a restoration? Then add the cost for a rotisserie restoration today, with a complete drivetrain rebuild.
At least 2 and maybe 3 times the cost of the asking price for this one.
Doors open and close like new, windows roll up and down easily.
Starts and drives very nicely.
Gorgeous car.
Too nice for our dirt road, and we are a mile from the highway.
If the road is dusty or muddy I won't take it out or if there is a chance of rain I won't drive it, so I hardly get to enjoy it.
If you look at the restoration photos you will see how nice the underside is.
After getting it home I spent 2 or 3 days underneath the car with buckets of warm soapy water cleaning the whole underside and then waxed everything.

Thank you.
